SMITHTOWN , NY – The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc. will hold its 18th Annual “Second Sight®” Bike-A-Thon on Sunday, September 16.

Both novice and experienced bikers will enjoy a day of exercise, food, and friends while supporting the Guide Dog Foundation mission to improve the quality of life for people who are blind, visually impaired, or who have other special needs.

This year’s bike-a-thon features new revised routes of Long Island’s North Shore with rides ranging from 10 to 65 miles long, and all rides begin and end at the Foundation’s Smithtown campus.  Upon return to the Foundation, participants will be treated to a lunch, tours of our 8-acre campus, and visits with our special dogs.  All pre-registered riders will receive a free 2007 Bike-A-Thon t-shirt and a free first-year membership in the Suffolk Bicycle Riders Association.  The top three fundraisers will get a gift certificate from Campus Bicycle & Fitness, and all riders are entered in a random drawing to win gift certificates to Carl Hart Bicycles.

Registration fees are $29 individual; $45 family (2 or more related people); and $10 per child (12 & under) if postmarked before September 6.   After September 6, late/in-person registration is $35 individual; $50 family.  Sponsors are not required to ride in the event.

The Suffolk Bicycle Riders Association, Long Island ’s largest recreational cycling club will again offer their services to ensure a safe and fun day for all participants.  Helmets are required for all riders.
