Giveaways for Mets and Yankees Fans

August 20, 2007

RIVERHEAD, NY — Labor Day weekend will be a sure hit at the award-winning Palmer Vineyards on Long Island’s North Fork.

Palmer Vineyards is hosting its first Baseball Weekend September 1 to September 3 with wine tastings, giveaways for Mets and Yankees fans, special Mets and Yankees radio network wines and, to make it complete — free hot dogs and live music. Those dressed for the occasion in Mets and Yankees attire will receive extra discounts for wine purchases made at the tasting room on Sound Ave. (Route 48), Riverhead.

The winery’s Baseball Weekend piggybacks on Palmer Vineyard’s recently announced designation as the official winery of the New York Mets and New York Yankees Radio Networks.

Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on each day during the holiday weekend, Palmer Vineyards will serve free hot dogs with each glass of wine, Kool-Aid or bottled water purchased at its tasting room. In addition, backpacks for fans of each team featuring the logo of the Mets Radio Network featuring Mr. Met or the logo of the Yankees Radio Network featuring the world famous Yankees logo will be available with the purchase of a glass of wine, Kool-Aid or water.

There's more.  Visitors to the winery during the Labor Day Weekend will receive a 10 percent discount on wine purchases if they are wearing either a Mets or Yankees cap or t-shirt. Fans wearing both will receive a 20 percent discount.

Specially labeled bottles of chardonnay and merlot for each team’s radio network  will be available at $12.95 per bottle.

Jazz musician Toby Altman will perform on Palmer’s spacious deck, from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and Monday.

Admission is complimentary and no reservations are required.

Established in 1986, Palmer Vineyards, the most-awarded winery on Long Island, has been described by New York Times wine writer Howard Goldberg as “Long Island’s most important winery.” Palmer, which has 125 acres of grapes, sells its wines in 23 states and five foreign countries. The Palmer Vineyards tasting room on Route 48 in Aquebogue is modeled on an old British pub and its tasting deck, overlooking the vineyards, is spacious.
