Citizens Advisory Panel Receives LIUU Grant

Long Island Unitarian Universalist Fund
Sponsors Energy Education & Outreach Program

The Citizens Advisory Panel (CAP), Long Island’s energy watchdog group, has received a $12,500 grant from the Long Island Unitarian Universalist Fund located in Jericho, New York. The grant will be used to support an education and outreach campaign to low income communities. The program is designed to assist Long Islanders in the fight for cleaner, more efficient energy production and to promote the use of alternative energy sources.

“This grant enables us to conduct much needed energy outreach across Nassau and Suffolk Counties,” stated Gordian Raacke, Executive Director. “With the help of the Long Island Unitarian Universalist Fund, we can effectively solicit input and participation from those communities which are frequently left out of the energy planning process”.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for CAP to help civic leaders make a difference in their communities by identifying energy-related problems and concerns,” added Kathleen Whitley, Energy Analyst for CAP. “This grant enables us to conduct important outreach that will help us achieve our goal of improving Long Island’s public health and environment through better energy planning.

The Citizens Advisory Panel is a not-for-profit organization originally established by the Federal Eastern District Court in 1989. CAP continues to assist the Suffolk County Legislature with energy expertise and independent oversight of the Long Island Power Authority.

The Long Island Unitarian Universalist Fund makes grants available for civic and environmental projects that enhance the well-being of the people and communities of Long Island. Fostering the transition to a cleaner, sustainable energy future on Long Island is one of its many projects.

CAP Inc. assists the Suffolk County Legislature in providing LIPA oversight for the residents of Suffolk County. CAP was established by order of the Federal Eastern District Court to advise Long Island's public concerning ways to improve electrical service, to mitigate rate increases, to control energy costs and to assist LIPA ratepayers to conserve energy.
