December 6, 2002 On Friday, December 6, 2002, the Long Island Works Coalition honored three groundbreakers in the battle to bridge the gap between business and education, during the Long Island Association Economic Outlook Breakfast, at the Crest Hollow Country Club, in Woodbury. The award recipients include: Lawrence J. Waldman In addition to being Managing
Partner of KPMG LLP, Lawrence Waldman brings 10 years experience as past
president of the East Williston school board and is Chairperson of the LIA
Education committee. He was also the chairperson of the 2001
Workforce Summit and follow up breakfasts which brought together the
business and academic leaders to address programs to develop our emerging
workforce. Ellen
Krammer As educational administrator
for the Farmingdale School system, Ellen Krammer has written and secured
hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants to promote special programs for
students. For over 6 years, Ellen was the director of one of the
School to Career Partnership, the precursor to LI Works, making
connections between students and the world of work. Ellen is one of
the founders of Commerce Plaza which is a center of student run
mini-businesses where elementary students apply for positions and spend a
day learning business skills. Diane
