Vermont Castings, Majestic Products (VCMP) is recalling space heaters. Overheating inside the space heaters can cause the exterior to become extremely hot, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. The recalled heaters are white with a silver grill cover. The vent-less heaters have the name "Vermont Castings" on the label directly below the grill. The heater model numbers start with the letters VBVH or VPVH and can be found on a rating plate on the left side of the heater. Call VCMP at (866) 757-6649

Maytag is recalling Crosley and Magic Chef electric ranges. Liquid can enter the indicator light and can cause sparking and flaming in the light, presenting a fire hazard to consumers.  The recalled electric ranges are 30-inch free-standing units with the control panel in the front between the door panel and main top. The Crosley brand name ranges have model numbers CE35000AAW or CE35000AAT, and the Magic Chef brand name ranges have model numbers CER1110AAT or CER1110AAH. Call (800) 462-9267.

Dell Computer Corp. is recalling batteries used in notebook-style personal computers. These batteries can overcharge, causing them to become very hot, release smoke, and possibly catch fire. The recalled batteries were sold in Dell Inspiron 5000 and 5000e notebook computers and sold separately for use in both of these systems. Those batteries that have colored stickers containing either the number "99" or the series "00 51" or less, and the letter "P" in the first line, are being recalled. Call (877) 237-3355.  In October 2000, CPSC announced a recall of Dell Notebook computer batteries for the Inspiron 3700 and 3800 systems.

Dynacraft Industries is recalling mountain bicycles. The pedals on these bicycles can loosen and fall off while riding, resulting in serious injury to the rider.These are men's and women's Magna Equator mountain bicycles. The 26- inch, 18-speed bicycles have the model names "Magna" and "Equator" written on the green-colored women's and red-colored men's bicycle frames in black lettering. Only women's bicycles with model numbers 8546-84 and men's bicycles with model number 8547-19, both of which were manufactured from December 1999 through May 2000, are included in the recall. Sheico PKS is recalling 10,000 scuba buoyancy compensator devices (BCDs), which are used by divers to maintain neutral buoyancy. The overpressure valve can stick in the open position, presenting a drowning hazard to divers. The recalled buoyancy compensators were sold under the following brand and model names: Brand Name Model Names Serial Numbers Sherwood Silhouette, Magnum, Between Avid, Luna, Outback 21280001 and and Freedom 22010740 Genesis Cayman, Cobra, Athena, Between 21280001 and Phantom and 22010740 Talon and ReCon Between 20520001 and 22010740 Aeris Atmos all units. Consumers should return them to the dive store or call (800) 808-3306.

Tools Exchange Inc. is recalling novelty cigarette lighters. The lighters do not have child-resistant mechanisms and have 2 brand names. Children could ignite the lighters, presenting fire and burn hazards. The "Hotery Pocket Torch" comes in various colors, including red and green, and is shaped like a fire extinguisher. It is a butane-fueled, torch-style lighter with a black plastic cap that fits over the flame port and ignition switch. The "Pocket Torch" comes in red and dark gray, and is shaped like a fire hydrant. It is a butane-fueled, torch-style lighter with a black cap that fits over the flame port and ignition switch. Harbor Freight Tools is recalling propane torches measuring about 22.5 inches long, that come as a "kit" with a wand, flow valve, turbo blast trigger, hard rubber grip and a hose that attaches to propane tanks. Writing on the hose of reads, "IN-8MM OUT-13MM BURST 525 PSI PRESSURE WORK 150 PSI MADE IN CHINA. Similar torches marked "Made in Italy," are not part of this recall. The hose that comes with the propane torch can crack or burst, presenting a fire and explosion hazard. Call (800) 444-3353.

Evenflo is recalling Joyride(r) infant car seats/carriers. When the seat is used as an infant carrier, the handle can unexpectedly release, causing the seat to flip forward. When this happens, an infant inside the carrier can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries."Evenflo is offering a free repair to prevent the seat from flipping forward," said CPSC Chairman Ann Brown. The recall announced today is related to only using the seat as a carrier and not to how the seat performs while in a car. Parents should continue to use these carriers as car seats." The seats have model numbers beginning with 203, 205, 210, 435 or 493, which can be found on a label underneath or on the side the car seat/carrier. Kmart is recalling MARTHA STEWART EVERYDAY(r) brand tea kettles. Boiling water can be expelled from the kettle's spout, presenting a burn hazard to consumers.They are stainless steel or white, sage, or slate colored porcelain. The words, "MSE Thailand" are printed on the knob attached to the lid of the kettle.Call Wilton Industries (800) 273-9398

Creative Consumer Concepts and Whataburger are recalling “Whatagear” compass toys. The clear, plastic lens covers on these compass toys can come off and pose a choking hazard to young children.The “Whatagear” compass is a plastic toy with a compass in its center. The toys have varied features, such as flashlights, magnifying lenses or tools. They come in various solid colors. The back of the compass reads, “WHATAGEAR” and “WHATABURGER.” Parents should take these toys away from children immediately, and return call (866) 327-2216
