Help Defray
the Cost |

October 22, 2001 During World War II, we fought for the freedom of all peoples and the way of life that we cherished. At that time patriotism brought all Americans together as one. The great task before us was to crush those who threatened our way of life. All the resources of our country were dedicated to that end. Our country, at that time, had just started to emerge from the Great Depression. Never the less, when Americans were called upon to sacrifice even more, we did! Today, after this monumental tragedy, we should inform the media and our legislators that we the American people, form all walks of life, want to be involved in reaching that same conclusion. During World War II, War Bonds were sold and were very successfully received by all. I am confident that we would all like to participate again, however, most of us don't know how. Saying our prayers, for the victims of this horrible act against humanity, or flying the flag, our symbol for freedom for all people, recognized around the world is one way to help. But today, I propose that those wishing to help defray the tremendous cost of what lies ahead, participate individually. Return some of the money due you on your income tax returns. One dollar or one thousand dollars will be one way we can all say, "We're with you" and God Bless America!" (This letter was presented at to the American Ex-Prisoners of War Convention in Tuscon, Arizona at the beginning of this month)
