Have A Heart Program
Reaches
Into Suffolk

Legislation sponsored by Deputy Presiding Officer Maxine Postal calling for the countywide installation of "proactive signage" on county roads directing people to local shelters to adopt animals passed unanimously on March 19.
The design, manufacture and
installation costs of these signs will be borne entirely by Port Washington
based Have A Heart Adopt A Pet Foundation.
The not-for-profit organization focuses on educating, encouraging and supporting the adoption of sheltered pets through public-private partnership. The signage program, already in place in North Hempstead, has proven to be a success, resulting in increased adoptions from the local animal shelter. Signs, similar to the one at right will now direct people to town shelters in Suffolk
