Suffolk County Police are investigating the death of a 33 year old man who was killed by an acquaintance on April 4, in Wyandanch.  At about 8 p.m. the man arrived at the home of Donald Platt, 42, who reportedly met him at the door carrying a samurai sword.  Police allege Platt struck the victim in the head and chest with the sword  causing fatal injuries.  The name of the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, is being withheld pending notification of his family.  Platt was taken into custody without further incident and is being held for arraignment in First District Court.  The investigation is continuing. 

Bingo Money Taken at Gunpoint

Joseph Moore, business manager of St. Cyril & Methodius Church, Deer Park had just withdrawn $5,000 in cash and coin from the Bank of New York, Deer Park Avenue branch.  When he returned to the church, Moore said he was confronted by two Hispanic males.  One of the men pointed a handgun at Moore and demanded money.  The subject reportedly fled in a dark blue vehicle.

K9 Training Nets Burglar

Sgt. Terrence Mawn and his K9 partner Rudy were conducting a training exercise on April 4 at 1:40 a.m. in Farmingville when they observed something suspicious.  A man walked from behind a group of stores carrying two cases of beer.  A check of the area revealed a breaking at the Village Delicatessen on Horseblock Road.  Rudy started to track the suspect and lead Mawn to the front yard of 78 Woodycrest Drive, Farmingvile.  Guadalupe Martinez, age 28, was arrested and charged with burlarly in the 3rd degree when glass shards were discovered on his coat.

Local Paper Used in Scam

Appearing at shopping centers in Smithtown and Centereach on weekends, 45 year old Charles Isrealian, collected $10 donations in honor of a non-existant victims of the World Trade Center collapse. Israelian, a Lake Grove resident was arrested on Sunday at the Smithaven Mall by detectives alerted to the scam by the local newspaper whose name was used by him in his scam.

Israelian told shoppers that their donation would earn them a listing in Suffolk Life and he kept a list of "donors." According to police he admitted to receiving money from 150 - 200 individuals and they estimated he took in about $1,000. He reportedly used the money to purchase crack cocaine. Isrealian was arrainged and held on $27,000 bond. 

Car Crash Kills 2 in Ronkonkoma

Suffolk County Police reported a 1989 Acura, operated by Craig Thorndike (22) apparently crossed over the center of Lake Shore Road at about 5:30 p.m. and collided with a 2000 Chevrolet van, which was traveling northbound.  Preliminary investigation indicated that Thornidke was traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred.

Thornidke was pronounced dead at the scene.  His passenger, Crystal Wright (18),  had to be extracted from the vehicle and died upon arrival at University Medical Center, Stony Brook.  The driver of the van, Nicole Machado (21) also had to be extracted from her wrecked vehicle by the Lake Ronkonkoma Fire Department at the scene.  She was transported to University Medical Center along with her husband, David Machado (23), their son Dante (2) and a passenger (Rose Louriceella (22).

Investigation into the details of the accident are continuing and both vehicles have been impounded for safety checks. 

Prostitution Arrests in Deer Park

First Precinct Crime Section Officers conducted an undercover investigation in to prostitution offences occurring at a Deer park massage parlor on 4/2/02.  A search warrant was executed at the Sun Gold Spa, 730H Grand Boulevard, resulting in the arrest of three women. 

Police also seized $1,179 in cash, numerous massage tables and related accessories.  Sunyou Williams, age 44 of Plainview, Lianshu Li, age 46, of Woodside and Ok-Ja Go Park, age 41 of Plainview, were each arrested for unlawful practice and prostitution.  They were scheduled to be arraigned on April 3, 2002 at First District Court in Central Islip.
