SO NICE, AWARDED TWICE

Multiple Awards for Islip.TV Creator Waldo Cabrera

September 24, 2007

ISLIP, NY -  It was an eventful day for Islip.TV creator Waldo Cabrera, his pursuit of highlighting the positive aspects of our community though video on the Internet earned him recognition from NY State Senator Caesar Trunzo and from the Islip Town Board. Senator Trunzo and Islip Town both held “Hispanic Heritage Awards” in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which honors outstanding individuals in the Hispanic Community.

Five honorees were selected by Senator Trunzo, eight by the Town of Islip, but only one, Waldo Cabrera (pictured at right), was selected by both. “It is a tremendous honor to be simultaneously recognized by these great leaders for our ongoing efforts to bring media attention to our communities that don’t revolve around death and destruction. It is evident that we have succeeded in our mission to bring respect and in spreading positive vibes within our communities” said Cabrera.

Since going on air on April 30, 2007, Islip.TV’s coverage and unique programming has created plenty of excitement. From the Islip Star Awards to the Community Candidate Interviews, Waldo’s efforts have brought worldwide attention to the Town of Islip. Yes, worldwide. Viewers from over twenty-seven countries log in every month to see videos of their families and friends.  (Pictured in Senate Photo (L-R) Waldo Cabrera, Candy Falcon, Senator Caesar Trunzo, Teddy Acevedo, Nellie Ciauri and William Rodriguez.)

Assemblywoman Ginny Fields and Legislator Rick Montano surprised Waldo by presenting additional awards of their own: a Citation on behalf of the New York State Assembly, from Fields and a proclamation from the Suffolk County Legislature from Montano.

The big winner of the night was Waldo’s mother, who was present at the ceremonies and received a standing ovation for being a struggling immigrant raising four kids in the Bronx (All of whom are now college graduates and successful professionals.)   “That doesn’t happen by mistake!” exclaimed her son. “It is the dream of every immigrant to see that their sacrifice has resulted in a better life and in greater opportunities for their children.”

“I am humbled by this show of appreciation. I dedicate these awards to my wife and to my son. Whom I hope will be as proud of me when he grows up, as I am of my parents today,” said Waldo.

Islip.TV is a video sharing site that focuses on the positive people, news, and events that make our neighborhoods great.  This young, fast-growing company has preserved Long Island memories through its ISLIP STAR AWARDS and is empowering the voters through its COMMUNITY CANDIDATE INTERVIEWS.
