From the Office of
Assemblyman James Conte
Assemblyman Jim Conte (R-Huntington Station) has announced that he will host a graduation ceremony on November 11, 2001 for local veterans who left high school to serve in World War II. The men and women will be awarded a high school diploma as part of Operation Recognition, which recognizes the service of these veterans, as well as the wealth of knowledge and education obtained during their time in the military and subsequently throughout their lives.
"Operation Recognition is a program designed to thank the many veterans who sacrificed their high school education to serve their country," said Conte.

As a result of legislation signed into law by Governor George Pataki, any veteran who served in World War II and attended a New York state high school will be awarded a high school diploma. There are no fees or additional requirements and there are at least 100 veterans being honored at this ceremony.
"As Americans and New Yorkers, we owe a great debt to the men and women who fought to ensure our freedom," Conte said. "Many veterans had to forego their education, first to defend their country, then to support their family. Awarding them this diploma is a way of saying thank you to those who have sacrificed so much for us all."
The event will be held at the Elks BPOE Lodge 1565, 195 Main Street, Huntington Village at noon on November 11. For more information about the graduation ceremony please contact Assemblyman Conte's office at 631-271-8025.
There are two separate lists below of the men and women from some of the western townships of Suffolk County who are receiving diplomas.
